The No-Fuss Photo Session Prep Guide for Classical Musicians

Because rehearsals, recitals, and reed-soaking are already enough.

Hey there, maestro. I know your calendar is packed. Between rehearsals, lessons, performances, and maybe a little existential dread over programming decisions, the last thing you want to stress over is planning a photo shoot.

But… you also know your website still features that headshot from grad school (yes, the one with the slightly-off bow tie or the windswept outdoor lighting). And your social media? Probably more photos of your cat on your practice scores than of you doing your thing.

Let’s fix that, with zero drama and minimal time investment, so you can get back to your craft.

Common Struggles (And How We’ll Solve Them)

1. “I don’t have time.”

You’re teaching in the morning, rehearsing all afternoon, and playing Brahms until bedtime. I get it. That’s why I offer:

  • Flexible scheduling: Weekends, lunch breaks, in-between masterclasses...we’ll find a time that works.

  • Mini sessions or full-length shoots depending on how much content you need.

  • Efficient planning ahead so we can shoot quickly and effectively. You'll be amazed what we can do in 30 -60 minutes.

You bring your A-game. I’ll handle the rest.

2. “What am I supposed to wear, my concert blacks?”

Not unless you want to look like you just walked off stage at a funeral.

Here’s the trick: you want to look like yourself, but polished.

  • Bring 2–3 outfits that reflect different vibes; think:

    • “Conservatory brochure” (professional, but approachable)

    • “Instagram casual” (clean lines, still polished)

    • “Soloist energy” (dramatic, bold, expressive)

  • Neutrals and jewel tones photograph beautifully. Avoid big, busy prints or logos

  • Bring your instrument if it’s part of your visual brand - we’ll incorporate it naturally.

And yes, you can text me outfit pics ahead of time for advice. I'm basically your temporary stylist.

3. “I feel awkward in front of the camera.”

That’s my job! To make sure you don’t. You won’t be forced into weird poses or made to do the “hold your flute and look longingly into the distance” shot… unless that’s your thing.

I’ll guide you through the shoot with simple prompts and natural movement. You’ll feel relaxed, confident, and like you’re not just taking a headshot, but building your brand as a modern classical artist.

Think of it less like “picture day” and more like “branding for your future Carnegie debut.”

4. “I just need a headshot… but also website and promo photos… and maybe a banner image…”

You’re in the right place. When you book with me, we’ll talk through:

  • What you need now

  • What you’ll likely need soon (grant applications, audition packets, website banners, PR kits, etc.)

  • And how to create a set of versatile, scroll-stopping images that serve multiple purposes—across platforms.

You don’t need 100 images. You need 5-10 that work hard for you. We’ll make those happen.

The TL;DR Version (Because You’ve Got Practice to Do)

  • Quick + flexible sessions built around your life.

  • Wardrobe help, so you look sharp and feel like yourself.

  • Photos with personality—not just headshots, but visual assets for your brand.

  • Minimal stress. Maximum results.

You’re a professional. Your photos should reflect that.Let’s finally get you images you’re proud to send to agents, use for resumes, applications, and competitions, and yes...your mom.
